Dear colleague,

The ESB 2009 - 22nd European Conference on Biomaterials - Organizing Team would like to take the opportunity to send the very best wishes for you and your family for the Holiday Season and the New Year. 2009 will also be the year of ESB 2009 taking place September 7-11, 2009, in the Beaulieu Convention Centre, Lausanne.

This mail announces the 2nd call for abstracts. Registration and Abstract submission is open since end of November 2008. Internationally recognized academics and clinicians already agreed to contribute Plenary Lectures. Detailed information (preliminary programme, registration, abstract submission details) is available on http://www.esb2009.org <http://www.esb2009.org/>

----------------------------------------
ESB2009 will take place September 7 - 11, 2009, in Lausanne, Switzerland.
- Deadline for abstracts to be considered as oral presentation is January 26, 2009. Application for keynote lectures is possible - about 50% of the keynote lectures will be selected competitively.
- The submission of abstracts for consideration as posters will be open until March 16, 2009.
----------------------------------------
ESB2009 intends to strengthen the scientific basis of the traditional ESB core topics while increasing interaction with both the clinical and industrial side of biomaterials. We expect about 1000-1200 participants, the majority being from Europe composed of researchers, medical professionals and manufacturers.
----------------------------------------
ESB2009 intends to attract clinicians by planning several keynote lectures from clinicians, by subdividing the meeting in day themes and by contacting clinical societies/authorities to obtain credit points.
----------------------------------------
ESB2009 will to draw on the extensive MedTech industry within Switzerland, the BioMed Alpine Cluster and Europe to bring closer working relationships with industry. We are collaborating with alliance, which is part of the European Innovation Relay Centre whose goal is to help support and build up international technology partnerships within Europe, especially for small businesses. One of the themes of the day will be industry in the Med Tech area and we will also have an exhibitor evening.
----------------------------------------
ESB2009 will start each day firstly with the ESB award lectures (Jean Leray and George Winter). Remaining as a single session there will then be a lecture on clinical problems that need to be solved within a theme of the day and a lecture of the state of the art in research of that area (Tuesday- Industrial day, Wednesday - Vascular Intervention, Thursday - Spine, Friday - Infection). Subsequently, we will move on to the break out parallel sessions. One of the five parallel sessions will continue the theme of the day, throughout the day. Both pre-meeting and during meeting workshops, educational and more specialised will also be held. The opening ceremony on the evening of the 7th will have a plenary lecture from Prof. Jeffrey A. Hubbell.
----------------------------------------
ESB2009 intends to connect biomaterial research with current clinical problems to produce progressive translational research.
ESB2009 will be the venue to present and discuss basic, applied/translational & clinical research in a multi disciplinary environment.

We look forward to welcoming you in Lausanne to ESB2009 and to a very successful and rewarding meeting.

All our wishes and Season's Greetings,
Yours Sincerely,

R.Geoff Richards, Marc Bohner and Christine Wandrey
Congress Organisers on behalf of the Swiss Society for Biomaterials.
